Five Avenues of Service - Community Service

Rotary members are given the opportunity to volunteer for various community events at Rotary meetings via sign-up sheets that are passed around during the meeting. There are several community service functions we perform at the Early Bird Rotary. Although these events are not required, they are seen as make-up events and we encourage members to be involved. If you have any suggestions of community service events you would like our club to participate in, please let any member of the Board know. Some include:

Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army (once a year)

This event traditionally takes place in December. Bell ringing is a great opportunity to directly effect our community. Teaming up with the Rotary Interact club(s), we ring bells for a fundraiser that benefits the Salvation Army.

Highway Cleanup (twice a year)

This event traditionally takes place in the spring and fall. We have an area of Hwy NN that has been designated as our Wausau Earlybird Rotary portion of the Highway Cleanup Efforts. Many Rotarians involve their families in this effort to pick up trash along the Highway.

Love Is International Weekend (once a year)

This event traditionally takes place in the spring. The Love is International weekend is filled with fun and is a great opportunity to involve your own family in sharing the International flavor of Rotary. Teaming up with the Wausau Noon Rotary Club, we organize a weekend for the Rotary International High School Exchange Students. This includes teaming with the Wausau West Rotary Interact club as well. The weekend is filled with events such as bowling, dinner, etc. Additionally, a voluntary sign-up sheet is given out to host one of the students as well. Traditionally, the students stay at a Rotary member's house on Friday night, the member (and family members if desired), participate in some planned events. Then, Saturday, the Rotary member brings the student to a location for the overnight functions at the YMCA.

Rotary Youth Leadership Exchange (RYLA) Weekend (once a year)

This event traditionally takes place in the spring. The RYLA weekend is great fun and a great learning experience as well. Teaming with the Sturgeon Bay Rotary Clubs, this event involves Rotary Facilitators and selected high school students from our Rotary District. The event has been held at the YMCA Camp Manitowish in Boulder Junction, Wisconsin. The weekend involves building leadership skills among the high school students. If you would like to volunteer to act as an adult Rotary facilitator, please inform our President.

Annual President's Dinner and Auction (once a year)

This event traditionally takes place in January on a Friday evening. The annual dinner is a great event to socialize with other Rotarians (possibly meet their "better" halves), and have some fun. We normally have cocktails, dinner and entertainment (the auction is very entertaining in itself).

The most important aspect of giving and stewardship to the Rotary is time. You have chosen a very enthusiastic and community-oriented club. There are also many opportunities to give financially to Rotary; however, these are completely voluntary.
